Sharm El Sheikh to Cairo by bus or by plane
The Cairo day trip by bus picks you up around midnight. There is a stop halfway for a snack and coffee or tea, and you reach Cairo at about 9:00. The whole trip takes about 24 hours, so you are back at the hotel the following night. It costs from $85.
The Cairo day trip by plane picks you up around 4:00 for the airport, and you land in Cairo at about 8:00. The programme is the same and the trip takes about 16 hours in total, from $255. The plane makes sense if you do not want a night on the bus or are travelling with children; the bus is the choice when price matters most.
What the Cairo day trip includes and what costs extra
Both one-day tours follow the same order: the Grand Egyptian Museum first, with Tutankhamun's mask and the sarcophagi, then the bank of the Nile, an oil and perfume factory, lunch at a restaurant beside the pyramids, and finally the pyramids and the Sphinx. Two things cost extra: a ride on a small boat on the Nile, offered at the riverbank, and a private car with a guide in your language for the day.
