Bus or plane is the main decision. The bus picks you up around 1:00 in the morning, stops at a café halfway and reaches Cairo at about 10:00, and the whole trip takes about 24 hours. For the plane trip we collect you around 4:00 for the airport, you land in Cairo at about 8:00, and the day takes about 17 hours. The main sights are the same, so you are choosing between price and hours on the road.

Hurghada to Cairo by bus or by plane
Cairo 1 day by bus, from $57, is the lowest-priced way to see the pyramids from Hurghada. In Cairo you visit the National Museum with the mask of Tutankhamun and the sarcophagi, stop on the bank of the Nile, where a small boat ride is offered for an extra fee, and then see the pyramids and the Sphinx. For a fee you can visit the Grand Egyptian Museum instead.
Cairo 1 day by plane, from $255, starts at the Grand Egyptian Museum, followed by the Nile with an optional boat ride, an oil and perfume factory, lunch at a restaurant next to the pyramids and then the pyramids of Giza. It costs more than the bus, but you skip most of the road.
Two-day tours: Old Cairo or Alexandria
Cairo 2 days by bus, from $185, spreads the sights over two days. Day one is the museum, the Nile, the pyramids and the Sphinx and an oil factory, with evening entertainment at your hotel. Day two covers the Citadel of Salah El-Din with its three palaces and two museums, the Alabaster Mosque of Muhammad Ali, the Mary Girgis church and Khan El-Khalili bazaar in Old Cairo.
Cairo and Alexandria 2 days by bus, from $185, spends the first day in Cairo with the museum, the Nile and the pyramids, then continues to Alexandria on the Mediterranean for Fort Qaitbay, the Kom al Shoqafa catacombs and Pompey's Pillar.
If 24 hours in one go sounds like too much, the two-day tours give you a night in Cairo between the sights.
What costs extra and what to bring
The extras on the Cairo trips are the small boat on the Nile, a private car with a guide in your chosen language and, on the one-day bus trip, the switch to the Grand Egyptian Museum. Bring a photo of the first page of your passport on your phone, comfortable shoes, a hat and cash for personal expenses. A warm layer helps on the night drive.

We might ask you to send a photo of your passport. This reduces the waiting time in the port or when leaving the reserved areas of Sharm el-Sheikh by booking everything in advance. In response to your request, we will send the bus arrival time for you. An important clarification: the bus is waiting at the gate, outside the hotel. This significantly shortens the transfer time. All excursions can be booked just one day before the desired date of visit, except for tours by plane.
