Dolphin House Hurghada: wild dolphins by boat
Dolphin House by boat is a full day: pickup around 8:00, a yacht to the coral reefs where the dolphins live, several snorkelling stops and lunch on board (kofta, fish fillet, salad, pasta, rice and bread, with tea, coffee and Pepsi). You are back at the hotel around 17:00. Prices start at $33.
If the dolphins are there, you watch them from the surface with a mask and snorkel, in their natural environment. If the pod is away from the reef that day, you still have the snorkelling stops and lunch. The trip suits people who are comfortable snorkelling in open water.
Dolphin show and swimming with dolphins at the dolphinarium
The dolphin show lasts about an hour, with jumps and tricks set to music and led by the trainers. Pickup is around 14:00 and you are back around 16:00, so the morning stays free for the beach. The entrance ticket is included, from $18.
For a swim, choose 5 minutes (from $55) or 10 minutes (from $80) in the water with a dolphin. Pickup is around 10:00 and you are back around 13:00. The transfer, ticket and life jacket are included.
The show and the swim are separate bookings: the show ticket does not include a swim, and the swim does not include the show.
Which dolphin trip suits children and non-swimmers
With young children or non-swimmers, the show is the simplest choice: you watch from your seat, and the whole outing with the transfer takes about two hours. The swim sessions are meant for adults and children alike, and life jackets are provided. Dolphin House is a long day at sea and suits older children who already snorkel.
You can also meet dolphins on other trips. The private yacht can spend the afternoon at a bay where dolphins live, and on the Nemo Island trip they sometimes appear near the boat. Neither is sold as a dolphin trip, so seeing them there is down to luck.
What to bring
For Dolphin House and the swims, bring swimwear, a towel, sunglasses and a hat, plus sunscreen for the boat. For the show, comfortable clothes are enough. Everyone needs a photo of the first page of their passport on their phone. Photos and videos by the photographer cost extra, as do transfers from El Gouna, Safaga, Sahl Hasheesh, Makadi and Soma Bay.
