Hurghada sits on the mainland coast of the Red Sea, so a holiday here gives you three kinds of day out: boat trips to the Giftun islands and reefs just offshore, safaris in the Eastern Desert behind the town, and long trips inland to Luxor, about four hours away by road, and Cairo.
Sea trips and islands from $18
Island days are the trips most guests book first. Orange Bay, Paradise Island and Nemo Island are full days on a yacht with snorkelling on the reef, lunch on board and time on a white beach. Masks, snorkels and fins are usually part of the package. If you would rather stay dry, the semi-submarine shows you the reef through its windows.

Dolphins from $18
There are two ways to see dolphins in Hurghada. On the Dolphin House boat trip you snorkel at a reef where a wild pod lives; sightings are likely but nobody can guarantee wild animals. At the dolphinarium you can watch the show or swim with a dolphin for 5 or 10 minutes.

Luxor from $50
Luxor is the best-value long trip from Hurghada. Pickup is around 4:00, and the basic tour covers Karnak Temple, the Colossi of Memnon and Hatshepsut's temple before you drive back in the evening. The other versions add the Valley of the Kings, the Valley of the Queens or the Temple of Hathor at Dendera.

Cairo is about 460 km from Hurghada. The bus trip is one long day that starts before dawn; the flight cuts out most of the road. The two-day tours add the Citadel and Khan El-Khalili bazaar, or a day in Alexandria.

Which excursions to choose
With a week in Hurghada, most guests book one island day, one desert safari and one long trip to Luxor or Cairo. Travelling with small children, swap the long trip for Makadi Water World or the semi-submarine.
The sea is warm all year: around 26 to 29°C from June to September and 22 to 24°C from December to February. On winter boat trips the wind on deck is cool, so bring a sweatshirt and long trousers.

We might ask you to send a photo of your passport. This reduces the waiting time in the port or when leaving the reserved areas of Sharm el-Sheikh by booking everything in advance. In response to your request, we will send the bus arrival time for you. An important clarification: the bus is waiting at the gate, outside the hotel. This significantly shortens the transfer time. All excursions can be booked just one day before the desired date of visit, except for tours by plane. Also remember that: we do not take prepayment (except for excursions by plane or on an individual yacht). Payment with the guide, day to day.
